Block, Dodge, Parry was and is the way I tend to run my games; the version 2 update reflects all the tools and things I incorporated over time in my personal toolkit, and all the tools I publish alongside it are made because I (would) personally use them.

In that spirit, there’s a lot of things that Block, Dodge, Parry was never meant to contain; it describes how dungeons work within the system, but not how to make one, for instance. Thus, version 2 has a few instances of Further Reading. I’d like to highlight those more here, simply because I think everyone should know about them.

Downtime in Zyan

Written by Ben Laurence, the systems it provides for downtime are a big part of how Complex Tasks are handled in Block, Dodge, Parry. Link: https://ben-laurence.itch.io/downtime-in-zyan

On Downtime and Demesnes

Written by Courtney C. Campbell, I consider it one of the foundational RPG texts for handling downtime activities, political roleplay, construction of buildings, and much more. Link: https://agonarchartist.itch.io/on-downtime-and-demesnes

Gig Economy

Written by Colin Sproule, Gig Economy features a truly impressive collection of interesting NPC hirelings. Link: https://hurtleberrypress.itch.io/gig-economy

Demesnes & Domination and Medieval Mercenaries

Both by Bryan Larkin, Demesnes & Domination features so much more than ‘just’ domain play. Medieval Mercenaries gives all the inspiration you could ever need for a warfare-based campaign. D12 Monthly

By YUM DM, the sheer amount of content and thorough dedication found in these releases is stunning. Covering everything from wilderness (with entire issues dedicated to single biomes), dungeons and monsters, it’s a steal at the low low price of free. Link: https://yumdm.com/zines/

Flux Space

I’ve sang the praises of Nick LS Whelan’s Flux Space concept before, and with good reason. It’s such a simple idea, but it rewired how I look at dungeons. Link: https://www.paperspencils.com/flux-space/

Runecairn Bestiary

I think By Odin’s Beard has a production quality I can still only marvel at, and the bestiary he made for Runecairn is no different. And it’s usable with Block, Dodge, Parry with minor adjustments! Link: https://byodinsbeardrpg.itch.io/runecairn-bestiary
